"Nowhere in the Bible sanctioned the use of fermented wine. The wine that Christ made with water at the wedding at Cana was pure grape juice. This is the" juice "that is in the" cluster ", which tells the Scripture: "Do not destroy it, for a blessing is in it." Isaiah 65:8.
It was Christ who warned Israel in the Old Testament: "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise." Proverbs 20:1. Himself provided no such beverage. Satan leads men to go with habits that becloud reason and benumb the spiritual perceptions, but Christ teaches us the lower nature. He never places men what could be a temptation for them. His whole life was an example of selflessness. To break the power of the appetites fasted forty days in the wilderness, and our benefit endured the toughest test that humanity could suffer. It was Christ who directed that John the Baptist should drink neither wine nor strong drink. It was He who enjoined similar abstinence upon the wife of Manoah. Christ did not contradict His own teaching. The unfermented wine which convidades supplied the wedding was a wholesome and refreshing drink. "
